HEADLINE
Stayton Booster Club Missing Funds
The Stayton Booster Club recently discovered a discrepancy in the amount of funds it has on hand as compared to the funds it believed it had. This discovery occurred during a routine transition of the accounting records from a former officer of the club to the replacement officer. The Booster Club promptly referred the matter to its attorneys as well as local authorities and the Oregon Department of Justice, and now is waiting for reports from each source. The Booster Club also has put in place safeguards to assure accountability of its finances including the use of dual signatures for all expenditures and withdrawals.
The Stayton Booster Club is about kids, its focus being totally for the support and well being of the children of the community. The citizens of the community have supported the Booster Club for decades. The Booster Club has been held by the community in high regard, and its board and members have worked diligently in their efforts to support the children and the community. The board of directors, with the recent discovery, now is expending time to identify the extent of the discrepancy in funds and, if there is blame to be found, to identify through correct legal channels whether there are persons at fault and, if so, whether missing funds, if any, might promptly be returned to the Booster Club.
The board of directors feels it is extremely unfortunate that funds of the Booster Club appear to be missing from the Booster Club accounts. The board of directors will take such steps as are appropriate to correct the situation and will report to the community the extent of the discrepancy when it is fully identified. The board of directors also is addressing how it will raise funds to finish projects and commitments that are in process.
The President and Secretary-Treasurer of the Booster Club are available to answer questions of the public.
